Trentbarton plans to remove the number 90 service through New Selston, which community leaders say will prevent pensioners travelling to Sutton and Kirkby and make it inconvenient for youngsters trying to get to college.
The routes were temporarily removed earlier this year while work to improve the motorway bridge at Kirkby Lane was carried out and are unlikely to be re-instated.
Coun Gail Turner, who represents the area for
Ashfield District Council, told Chad she would do all she could to block the moves.
"It is clear that people in the area are very angry and worried by what is proposed," she said.
'Suffer'"This will mean people are prevented from getting to work or college, while the elderly will be unable to get out and about and their quality of life will suffer.
"I am very concerned about these proposals and am working to either get trentbarton to change their mind or get subsidies so that services will still run in New Selston."
Ashfield District Council chiefs have now pledged to contact trentbarton in a bid to block the proposals.
But Mark Greasley, commercial manager for the company, told Chad the decision had been carefully considered.
'Direct'Said Mr Greasley: "It is true that from 26th October this bus will take a more direct route from Kirkby Cross and will no longer serve New Selston.
"Our decision hasn't been taken lightly and comes after much work surveying passenger figures, but unfortunately the fact of the matter is that there just aren't enough customers travelling on a regular basis for us to carry on providing a service.
"There is a possible safety net. We have spoken to Coun Turner, who is aware that
Nottinghamshire County Council has powers to potentially step in and provide transport for the community where a bus service is not commercially viable."
