HIGHWAYS bosses have launched five new 'Task Force' teams complete with special vehicles to carry out non-emergency jobs faster.
Nottinghamshire County Council has created the new teams to complete everyday jobs such as repairs to road signs, removing illegal signs and cutting down overgrown trees.

The teams will each have eye-catching vehicles which feature photographs of highways workers and they will also provide back-up at emergency situations, such as road accidents.

Said Coun Stella Smedley, cabinet member for transport and highways: "This fleet is an exciting addition to our highways service and will make a big difference in clearing the backlog of everyday jobs that need to be done around the county, but frequently can't be done at short notice, because emergency high priority jobs and major pre-planned schemes have to take precedence.

"Branding them with large pictures of our actual highways officers and the logo 'Task Force' is most welcome as it will make the vehicles instantly recognisable and the people of Nottinghamshire will be able to see first hand the marvellous job our highways staff are doing."

Mansfield and Ashfield district councils will each use one of the vehicles, while the others will work across the rest of the county.
