AFTER-SCHOOL education provider Kumon is celebrating 50 years of helping children meet their full potential.
The company, which has a centre based at Alfreton Library, now operates in 44 countries and focuses on developing children's skills in English and maths.

"We don't look at children's school age we look at their abilities," said Sue Wigglesworth, an instructor at the Alfreton centre.

"It isn't something for pushy parents, it's for children who might need a little bit more help or for those who want to push themselves a bit more."

Kumon started in Japan when maths teacher Toru Kumon decided to make some worksheets for his son who was struggling at school.

In order to celebrate the 50th anniversary, Kumon is offering the chance to take part in a two-week summer taster session, open to all children enrolling between 21st June and 20th July.
