PARENTS of Year Six pupils in Derbyshire are being urged to apply now to get their children a place at secondary school next year.
Nearly 9,000 families have been sent application packs by Derbyshire County Council and should complete the forms by 24th October.

Coun Alan Charles, cabinet member for schools, said: "Parents are asked to carefully consider which school they want their child to go to and get in their application before the deadline.

"If they miss the deadline, they risk not getting a place for their child at their preferred school and that could mean them having to travel further to an alternative school or not get into the same school as their friends."

Parents can apply for school places online at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/admissions, by contacting Call Derbyshire on 08456 058 058 or by filling in the form in their application pack.

They can also gain advice about how to choose schools and complete the forms by contacting the Derbyshire Parent Partnership Choice Adviser Service on 01246 273154.
