MOTORISTS are being warned to expect delays on and around the A38 in Alfreton from Monday when the Highways Agency carries out work.
Maintenance and safety improvement work will be carried out on two bridges at the Watchorn Interchange, which carry the A61 and B6179 over the A38, until the end of November.

The £500,000 project will include minor strengthening work and the repl
acement of existing bridge parapets and a 40mph speed limit will be in place.

Closures

There will also be 24-hour-a-day alternate lane closures on all approaches to the roundabout and on the roundabout and there will be some overnight closures of the A38 near completion of the work, with diversions in place.

Project manager Sameer Sharma said: "The work is necessary to ensure the continued safe provision of the A38 and the bridges carrying the Watchorn Interchange allowing motorists to make their journeys safely and reliably.

"However, with single lane closures being in place 24-hours-a-day, road users can expect slight delays.

"We ask people to observe the 40mph speed restriction for their own safety, and the safety of roadworkers."
