ALFRETON traders and shoppers are being asked to keep their eyes open for a potentially dangerous batch of counterfeit vodka.
Derbyshire County Council's trading standards are warning people to be on their guard against fake 70cl Spar-branded Imperial vodka, which has already been found in several locations around the UK.

The fake vodka –– which is likely to be found in independent outlets but not Spar stores –– has excessive levels of methanol, which can pose a danger to health.

Said cabinet member for community safety Clive Moesby: "One of our main priorities is the safety and well being of Derbyshire residents.

"Due to lack of quality control, fake alcohol can contain dangerously high levels of chemicals such as methanol which can be hazardous to the health."

Traders or shoppers who are suspicious about any product can contact Consumer Direct on 08454 040506 or visit www.consumerdirect.gov.uk.
