SELSTON residents are being warned to be on their guard after a vulnerable elderly couple were preyed upon by conmen.
The couple in their 80s were targeted when two men driving a red and yellow pick-up style truck arrived at their Nottingham Road home on Monday.

One of the men, who is described as white, in his late 50s and of slim build, then knocked on the door and took the elderly man who answered to the back of the house, claiming there was a problem with the manhole covers.

Meanwhile the second offender, described as white, in his mid 30s, 6ft tall, of slim build, with straight black hair and wearing a white shirt and trousers, entered the house claiming he had come to check the radiators.

After the men left the couple realised their savings had been stolen from the front room.

Det Con Jim Coleman, of Sutton CID, said: "These men preyed on a vulnerable elderly couple and they need to be caught. The couple had put the money aside to pay their bills and were left visibly upset by the incident.

"The van they used is very distinctive, so we are hoping someone who has seen the vehicle will get in touch."

Anyone with information is urged to contact Det Con Coleman on 01623 4230999 ext 3731 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
