AN Alfreton Grange Arts College student has hit all the right notes after winning the first ever Big Amber Valley Soundclash.
Singer Katy Marsden fought off competition from secondary schools around the area to win a day in a professional recording studio and have her own CD of songs produced.

The contest, arranged by Derbyshire Police, saw youngsters perform their own song or a cover before judges picked out Katy as the winner at a final showdown.

Project leader Graham Jarrett, anti-social behaviour co-ordinator for Amber Valley Community Safety Partnership, said: "The idea for the soundclash began before Christmas and the project has given those who took part something to focus their energy on.

"This has been a community-based venture and we've worked closely with the local schools and teenagers to achieve something very positive with the youth community."
