MANSFIELD Town FC chairman Andy Perry has added his voice to the growing list of tributes to golden girl Rebecca Adlington –– saying her triumphs have given the town a 'real lift'.
The club has invited 19-year-old Becky and her family along to a future home game as special guests in recognition of her stunning feats at the Beijing games.
And Mr Perry, who took over the Field Mill outfit with businessmen Andy Saunders and Ste
ve Middleton last month, says he and all the staff at the Stags cannot wait to welcome the swimming sensation to the football club.
"The club is giving her our full backing and the reaction of the fans and staff has been amazing," he said.
"What she has done is fantastic for the town and it has given Mansfield a real lift. She is a fantastic athlete and everyone at Mansfield Town is really pleased for her."
The Stags have also re-named their home dressing room showers the Rebecca Adlington Victory Showers after a request by programme makers from the Charlotte Church Show –– which Becky will be appearing on tomorrow night.
They were unveiled by Mr Perry and naked members of the first team squad yesterday in front of cameras from the Channel 4 show.
Mr Perry told mansfieldtown.net: "Channel 4 contacted the club on Friday and expressed a desire to film as much as Mansfield as possible. As you may be aware, the Charlotte Church Show is 'tongue in cheek' at times, which often looks at the 'other side' of life.
"All the players joined in the good-humoured spirit of the event. We hope that when Rebecca comes to Field Mill she'll be extremely proud of her unveiling . . . and not the unveiling of the players' this afternoon."
