Course designer,
Clyde B. Johnston, flew from the states to supervise the construction
of the course set on 180 acres of former deer park and orchards
in the grounds of the historic Norwood Park, in the rural setting
of Nottinghamshire
A typical American
style course with generous fairways and plenty of natural water
hazards among 500 year old oak trees.
The
large undulating greens are all built to U.S.G.A. standards
Over 5,000
new trees have been planted to compensate for the removal of
some existing woodland.
Notable holes
on the front nine are from 4 to 8 and the front nine all of which
meander through the old deer park.
On the back
nine the uphill dog leg 11th, the short downhill 12th with its
splendid viwes over the surrounding countryside and the excellent
par 5 18th are memorable.
For a new course
Norwood the faitways and greens are in ecxellent condition.
