MANSFIELD and Ashfield real ale action group CAMRA is urging local folk to get behind its latest campaign to save a Nottinghamshire brewery which produces beer for pubs across the area.
It is understood the Hardy & Hansons brewery in Kimberley is under threat from a takeover by industry giant Greene King and campaigners fear it may opt to close the brewery if its bid is successful.
Keith Wells, treasurer of Mansfield and Ashfield C
AMRA, told Chad his organisation is 'extremely disappointed' with Hardy & Hansons decision to sell and said the takeover could have a devastating impact on pubs across the area.
"If Greene King's bid is approved and they decide not to keep the brewery then this will lead to a loss of choice for real ale drinkers and pubs will also lose popularity if the range of beer they serve is limited," he said.
Hardy & Hansons-owned pubs across the district include The Snipe on the A38, The Badger Box in Annesley, King & Miller in Sutton and the Fox & Crown in Skegby.
It is believed Hardy & Hansons' directors are recommending shareholders to approve the takeover but CAMRA chiefs are urging folk to log onto their online campaign website and sign a petition in a bid to keep the brewery open.
l To sign CAMRA's petition log onto www.camra.org.uk and for local news log onto www.mansfieldcamra.org.uk.
